ALPINE SKIING

Lindsay Close, Head Coach

Lindsay Close is a Spanish teacher at BHS and has been a proud Bulldog since the school's inception in 2007. She started skiing as soon as she could walk and has been enjoying the sport ever since.  Lindsay previously served as assistant coach for the Bedford Alpine team, and is looking forward to taking on the role of head coach this season.

 

Josee Eaton, Co-Assistant Coach

Josee Eaton is a library assistant at Bedford High School and has been teaching skiing for 14 years.  She started in the preschool program at McIntyre Ski Area in Manchester, then at Ragged Mountain Resort in Danbury, New Hampshire as a full time ski instructor where she taught all ages.  Josee has been very involved in ski racing at the USSA level and also at the high school level, in that both of her children raced with the Ragged Mountain Ski Team and also at Bedford High School.   She is looking forward to her first year with the Bedford High School Alpine Race Team as the assistant alpine ski coach.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Mark Elmendorf, Varsity Head Coach

Mark Elmendorf begins his first season as the head boys’ basketball coach at Bedford High School. Mark has been Head Coach at Goffstown High School for the past two seasons. Prior that, Mark was JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant for five seasons here at BHS, as well as coaching at Pelham High School where he was named Coach of the Year.

Mark has the following goals for the Bedford High basketball program:

  • To develop Bedford into a basketball program that consistently competes for Division 1 state championships.

  • To give Bedford players the instructional framework to become good / great high school basketball players.

  • To create an atmosphere that is hard-working but respectful of teammates, opponents, coaches, and referees.

  • To create a basketball program the school and community are proud of.

Frank Moreno - JV Head Coach

Frank Moreno is entering his 5th season as a varsity assistant coach and first season as JV head coach at Bedford High School.  Coach Moreno also has spent six years as head coach of a Bedford Travel Basketball team and many years as an AAU Coach. In addition to coaching, Coach Moreno has served on the Bedford Basketball League’s Board of Directors for 10 years, serving in various roles.


Sean Donahue, Freshman Head Coach

Sean Donahue is a fifth grade teacher at McKelvie Intermediate School in Bedford.  He is also an Assistant Football coach, the Freshman Boy's Basketball coach, and the Freshman Baseball coach at Bedford High School.  Having grown up playing football, basketball, and baseball in Plymouth, NH; Sean played football at Stonehill College in North Easton, MA and graduated with degrees in Elementary Education and Mathematics.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sue Thomas, Varsity Head Coach

Sue has been involved in basketball for most of her life.  After playing at Niagara University, Sue has over 25 years of coaching experience including assistant coaching positions at Niagara and the University of Detroit.  She has been very involved in youth sports in Bedford since moving here over 20 years ago and is also a former member of the Bedford School Board.  With an MBA in Finance, Sue and her husband, Bob, own an engineering consulting firm in Bedford where she is the Treasurer.


Mike Collins, JV Head Coach

This is a Mike's first year as JV coach.  Mike played basketball at Dartmouth College and comes from a family of coaches.  He spent the last 5 years coaching with the New England Crusaders, a top women's AAU club.  Mike is a 18-year resident of Bedford, and has three children, including Rachel who plays on Bedford's varsity team.  Mike is CEO of Big Idea Group, a local innovation development company.


Robert Johnson, Freshman Head Coach

This is Bob’s first year as the freshman coach. He has spent the past 10 years coaching with the New England Flames, a women’s AAU program.  Bob moved to Merrimack in 2000 and is married to Cheryl Johnson, together they have four children.  Bob’s involvement with youth sports include coaching travel basketball, AAU basketball, soccer, softball, FIFA soccer official, Babe Ruth softball umpire and baseball umpiring.

ICE HOCKEY

Martin (Marty) Myers, Varsity Head Coach

Marty Myers begins his first season as the head ice hockey coach at Bedford High School.  Coach Myers brings a wealth of coaching experience with previous stints at the high school and youth levels in New Hampshire.   He is highly respected by his peers for his emphasis on skill development (individual/team), sportsmanship, discipline and making sure that the experience is enjoyable and memorable for the young people who play on his teams.  Mr. Myers was the head varsity coach at Pembroke Academy in 2009-10 and has prior assistant coaching experience at Central High School and Pembroke.  In addition Coach Myers is involved in youth hockey with the Manchester Flames and has served as the head coach and assistant at the Bantam, Midget, Peewee, Mite and Squirt levels from 1992-2010.


Luc Vaillancort, Varsity Assistant

Hometown:   Bedford, NH

Luc is entering his third year as Varsity assistant coach where he works with the offense and special teams.  Luc's youth hockey was spent with MRYHA, St. Joe's, and Manchester Memorial.  In the past, Luc has held coaching positions with the Henniker Huskies, Manchester Flames, and NH Avalanche.  Luc holds a USA Hockey Level III certificate and has completed the NHIAA coaching program.  


Donald Palmer, JV Head Coach

Donald M. Palmer, Hometown North Hampton NH.

Donny is entering his 3rd year as junior varsity Head Coach.  He also serves as an assistant to the Varsity program where he works with the defensive unit and special teams. Donny previously coached at Winnacunnet High School of Hampton for 4 seasons in the same role. Donny has been involved with USA hockey programs since 1987 and is currently a level 5 master program coach. He continues to work with the Seacoast Spartans program where he has coached at levels from squirts to midgets the past 10 seasons.   Donny has also been involved with programs from Manchester Flames and NH East youth hockey.

BOYS’ INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Derek Stank, Head Coach

Derek Stank comes to Bedford High School where he will teach Wellness and work as an Assistant Football coach and as Varsity Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field coach. Having a solid background in those sports as a high school athlete, Derek continued at the University of New Hampshire where in 2006, as a defensive end, he served as team Captain. In track & Field his concentration was on the shot put, discus, and javelin.


Emily Blahnik, Assistant

Emily Blahnik currently teaches at Memorial School in Bedford and will coach Girls Cross-Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track Teams at Bedford High School. As an athlete in high school Emily participated in the majority of track and field events with an emphasis on distance racing. She continues to enjoy running and occasionally competes in road racing.

GIRLS’ INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Noah Pion, Head Coach

Noah Pion attended the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Pedagogy with an emphasis in Physical Education.  Noah was a three-sport athlete in high school excelling in football, track & field, and basketball. Noah has been coaching indoor and outdoor track and field for 10+ seasons. Noah has been a Wellness teacher at BHS for over five years. He is the head coach for girls' track & field, focusing his efforts in the sprints and relays. Noah looks forward to successful seasons ahead working with a very talented staff.  Noah is also the Freshman Football Head Coach at BHS.


Stephanie Burnham, Assistant

Stephanie is a Humanities teacher at Bedford High School and a runner of twenty years.  She ran Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track at the University of New Hampshire and has continued to compete with the local track club since graduating in 2003. Stephanie is entering her ninth year as an English teacher.  Prior to coming to Bedford High School, she taught at Manchester Central High School where she worked as an assistant and volunteer for the distance teams for several seasons.

NORDIC SKIING

OPEN, Head Coach




Jon Cannon, Assistant

Jon Cannon skied Nordic competitively in middle school and in high school, and was named captain of his team at Belmont High School in his junior year.  He has competed at the division, state, and J-2 levels throughout New England.  This winter will mark his third season as a coach assisting Head Coach Robby Zeller.  With the move up to Division I, Coach Cannon is excited to see how this year's team stacks up against the competition!

SPIRIT (WINTER)

Jackie Hickey, Varsity Head Coach

Beginning this Fall, 2014 Jackie is entering her first year of coaching with the BHS Spirit program.  Jackie began cheerleading when she was 9 years old and was involved in all youth teams within her hometown of Londonderry, NH; including the Varsity team for her middle school.  In high school, Jackie cheered at the Varsity level for all four years and was captain of the team her senior year.  In addition to her local school teams, she was also involved in CO-ED All Stars.

Jackie began as a "coach-in-training" in 1997 and moved to Head Coach in 2003 for local recreation cheer teams where she continued to coach for nine more years!  She has also coached for an All Star program for the last seven years.  Jackie is really looking forward to coaching the BHS Spirit team and is very excited that the Spirit program begins competing at the Division I level this Fall.


Stephanie Brodsky, JV Head Coach

Stephanie has been involved in cheerleading and gymnastics since childhood. Cheering in Pop Warner, Jr High, High School, and All Stars. After graduating from High School Stephanie started Coaching for Nashua Catholic developing the team over a five year span until they claimed a Grand Champion Title at the State CYO competition. She went on to coach at Alvirne High School Varsity level developing a program that brought them to the top 6 in the state.  Stephanie enjoys coaching and working with the girls teaching them not only about the sport, but about sportsmanship and friendship.  She is very excited to start a new coaching career at Bedford High School.

BOYS’ and GIRLS’ SWIMMING & DIVING

Jennifer Cullen, Head Coach

Coach Jennifer began swimming at the age of four and continued competitive swimming through High School. As a teenager, she was a YMCA National Qualifier in the Butterfly and Individual Medley events. She attended Trinity High School in Manchester, NH and the University of New England in Biddeford, ME.  

Her coaching career began with the Greater Manchester YMCA Tiger Sharks in the early 90’s. Jennifer was actively involved with the construction of the Samuel Hunt Pool at the Allard Center. In the late 90’s, she moved to Massachusetts where she worked for six years with the YNS Sharks. Jennifer was also the Director of Aquatics at the Gloucester YMCA during this time.  She returned to the Greater Manchester YMCA in 2005 as head coach of the Tiger Sharks until April of 2012.Jennifer has been the head coach of the Bulldogs since the school opened in 2007. Jennifer’s coaching career extends over 20 years, 13 of which have been as a fulltime coach and mentor.


Luke Grilli, Assistant

Luke Grilli began swimming under the watchful eye of Coach Jennifer when he was 10. He swam for her on the Manchester Tiger Sharks and eventually moved onto the Rockingham Area Youth Swim Team (RAYS). Luke is a graduate of Londonderry High School where he was a captain of the 2002-2003 NHIAA State Championship swim team.  Upon graduation from Londonderry High School, Luke attended Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio where he swam all four years, earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) accolades in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 freestyle and 200 Medley Relay. He won the OAC championship in the 200 Medley Relay his Freshman year and 100 backstroke his Sophomore year.  This is Luke’s first year as an assistant coach and at Bedford High School.

WRESTLING

Chris Como, Head Coach

After seven seasons as an assistant Chris is excited to assume the head coaching position as the team enters their first season at the Division I level.  In addition to coaching the Bulldogs, Chris started the intramural wrestling program at McKelvie Intermediate School and is an assistant coach at Gryphons Wrestling Club in Manchester in the off season.

  • 1993 class L and state finalist, NE qualifier 103lbs.

  • 1994 class L 4th state 5th 119lbs.  

  • 1995 class L champion 3rd in state, NE qualifier 125lbs.  2X team captain.  

Chris set the West single season takedown record in 1994 with 109 takedown in his junior year and broke his own record with 116 takedown his senior season.  He was the first wrestler in school history to record consectutive 100 takedown seasons and holds the career takedown record at West with over 300 career takedowns.


Mike Poplaski, Assistant Coach
